What moves the price across toilets, faucets & fixtures
Each service prices differently, but these are the levers a Texas contractor is actually pulling.
- 01
Toilet Repair — Subfloor damage from a long-running seal failure
- 02
Faucet & Sink — Whether replacement parts are still available for the brand and model
- 03
Garbage Disposal — Clearing a jam versus replacing the unit
- 04
Shower & Tub — Parts availability for older or discontinued brands

How Much Does a Plumber Cost, and Why Two Quotes Differ
How plumbing pricing works: flat-rate price books against time and materials, the diagnostic fee, after-hours multipliers, and how to compare quotes line by line.

Before anyone touches a pipe
Verify the licence. It takes two minutes.
- Who licenses the work: Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE).
- Who pulls the permit: the licensed contractor, never the homeowner.
- What to ask for: the licence number, the registered name behind it, and an insurance certificate issued to the property address.

Good questions — toilets, faucets & fixtures in Texas
Why does my toilet keep running?
Almost always the flapper or the fill valve. A worn flapper lets water seep from tank to bowl until the fill valve tops it up again; a failed fill valve never shuts off. Both are inexpensive parts — the cost is mostly the visit.
Is a dripping faucet actually worth fixing?
Yes — a steady drip wastes a meaningful volume over a year, and the same worn seat that drips is usually also scoring the valve body. Catching it early keeps it a cartridge replacement instead of a fixture replacement.
My disposal just hums — is it dead?
Usually not. A hum with no rotation means the flywheel is jammed. Cutting power at the breaker and freeing the flywheel often revives it. A unit that is silent with power on has generally lost the motor or the switch.
Why does my shower go cold when a toilet flushes?
That is a pressure-balance problem. Older non-balanced valves react to a sudden pressure drop on the cold side. Replacing the valve with a pressure-balancing or thermostatic model is the durable fix.
How should a plumbing work quote be compared?
Line by line against scope: what is included, what is excluded, who pulls the permit, and whether haul-away and restoration are inside the number. The cost guides on this site list published third-party ranges so any quote can be sanity-checked.
Who handles the permit for plumbing work in Texas?
The licensed contractor pulls the permit — never the homeowner. If a contractor proposes skipping a required permit, treat that as the signal to stop and verify the licence.
What warranty applies to the work?
Whatever the contractor offers in writing — PlumberTexas is not a party to the agreement. Ask for labour and parts warranty terms in the quote, and keep the licence number with the paperwork.
How does the callback request work?
The 30-second form asks for a name, ZIP and the number to reach you on. The request routes to an independent licensed professional covering that area, and they call you back. Consent for marketing contact is optional — the request goes through with or without it.
